The first thing a home owner or tennant should do in this situation is to turn off all fixtures in the house, including any dishwashers and washing machines which may be running. Once this task has been performed, the home owner or tennant should then go out to the front of the property and check the water meter. If the water meter is still spinning then a leak is evident somewhere inside the property boundry.

Another thing to inspect is the toilets. Check that the toilets are not leaking. First check the water level to ensure that water is not overflowing the cistern by way of the overflow pipe. This pipe is in the middle of the tank. It has a small tubing connected to it. You could put a few drops of food colouring into the tank to test the flush valve mechanism. If the water in the bowl changes colour within 15 minutes, this is an indication that water is leaking into the toilet bowl and the inlet valve or outlet valve rubber seal needs to be replaced. You should contact us here at BlackJade Plumbing Services if you still can’t find the leaking pipe.
